Wonderdog Jax treed a bear this weekend. He was down behind Bruce’s house barking his head off. When I finally got there, he was about 10 yards from a bear at the base of a tree. I first thought it was a cub and mama would be there soon, so I got Jax back in the house. We all went back out and took pictures and watched the bear for a while. He was obviously freaked out and after a while he ended up going WAY up in the tree.

Margaret and I in one kayak, Elizabeth and Sam in the other, made the trip from D. L. Bliss State Park to Emerald Bay. We stopped and had lunch in the Tea House on Fannette Island. After that, we went to the mainland and swam a bit. It was a 9.2 mile round trip. By far, the longest trip any of us have done in the Kayak. Margaret did really well paddling on the way there and she took most of the pictures. You can see a map of the trip on the Rusty’s Rides site.
Roy and I went up the canyon and behind Twin Peaks where the Tahoe Rim Trail meets the Pacific Crest Trail, then down through Alpine Meadows. The walk along the PCT was absolutely amazing. Either walking along ridge where we could see down to the lake, or down just below looking out through Granite Chief Wilderness. We will have to figure out how to do this hike so that we don’t have to walk back through Alpine Meadows. A map of the hike and some details can be see here.
Margaret and I went to Tahoe this weekend to get a little bit of spring skiing and boarding in. We figured this was our last chance. On Saturday, we were kind of tired, so we didn’t do much skiing, but we did take a long walk. We went to the oven in Page Meadows and then to the rest of the meadows and then we bushwhacked down to the road. It was lots of fun.
On Sunday we went back to the slopes. Margaret went to the top with me for the first time. It is now her most favorite run. We were both very sad when we had to leave.
Last week was our ski week. The kids had the week off so we went to Tahoe for the week. We all did a lot of skiing (except Jax). Jax managed to find a couple of coyotes and protect us from them. The Waldens came up and skied with us. Margaret started snowboarding, Katy got better at it. Sam got much better at skiing. We also saw the eclipse, and the kids spent a lot of time outside in the snow playing. No one was ready to go home at the end of the week.
Elizabeth and I went to Tahoe this weekend and left the kids and the dog with Grandma (thanks Susan). Katy and Elizabeth went up Friday morning to ski with friends, I came up later Friday night. There was 4+ feet of snow on the deck. Katy and the others left at 2:30am Saturday morning, so Elizabeth and I had the weekend there alone. We got all the snow cleaned up on Saturday to wake up to a fresh batch on Sunday. I leave my snow blower near the front door so it I can use it to get out in the morning (if you look close you can see it). It is a Honda, so with a little digging it starts. Because of blowing, we ended up with about 4 feet of snow in the driveway that morning. Elizabeth wanted me to take out the trash. Needless to say, the snow is over some of the windows on the bottom floor and almost up to some windows on the second floor.
I went to Tahoe for an APRA board meeting. While there, I basically messed with wood for a few days. I burnt some slash that was lying around the yard and split some wood for this winter.
Got back from another great trip to Tahoe. One of my goals for the summer was to hike up to the top of the Lakeview lift and look down at my house. Well, I ended up driving most of the way up, but at least I made it. I got these pictures. We also had a great time out on our neighbor’s new boat. Going out on the lake was much more enjoyable than I thought it would be.
