We had our usual Halloween. The Van Meter kids parade in the morning. The block party, then about 840 trick-or-treaters.
Month: October 2006
This weekend we finally moved our stuff into the house in Tahoe. It is pretty much as done as it is going to get for a while. While we were up there, we hid a geocache. We walked from our house to Paige Meadows, met with a local dog named Rosie. She took her ball and hike with us. This is the same dog that took us for a walk about a year and a half ago. She stayed with us until I told her to go home, at which time she did.
I woke up early Sunday morning, looked out the window and saw a shooting star. Then i decided to go lay on the couch in the great room and watch the meteor shower. It was almost as good as being outdoors, but I was under a warm blanket on my couch.
Sam and I met some of my Yale friends (Pascale and her daughter, Juliana, Andy, and Scott, who was in town for a conference, but has been living the ex-pat life in London for some time now). We had lunch at the De Young Museum in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park, visited the sculpture garden, reviewed the architecture of the new building (none of us were keen on the exterior) and checked out the view from the tower (excellent).
While Elizabeth and Margaret were at Girl Scount Camp. Daniel, Izzy, Sam, and I went to Full Belly Farm for the Hoes Down Festival. It was basically a hippie festival, but pretty much centered around kids. There were workshops and what not on organic farming and other similar things, but we mostly just played with the kids. They did pot painting, Tibetan flag painting, crawled all over and through a straw maze, rode a zip line, picked pop corn, learned how to play drums, and went through a grass maze as well. It was loads of fun. We are all planning on going next year.
Margaret and I went to Girl Scout Camp this weekend for the Mother-Daughter camp out. We slept in this tent cabin with Sophie and Karla Maxfield. Most of Margaret’s troop went along, but we made up most of the camp out. We had a great time hiking to the Fairy Grove (aka Fern Canyon, a redwood grove) where the girls built houses for fairies. Margaret built a hotel. she spent a lot of time making the “Clover Cafe” portion of the hotel. She also enjoyed climbing the tree, making smores, singing songs, and exploring the tepees. We also spent a whole afternoon at the craft shack, making birdfeeders, necklaces, dolls and the big pink hat.
My Birthday
Today is my birthday. My present to myself was to go the whole day without putting on pants. I succeeded. I really liked this response from my dad:
Congratulations on not wearing pants on your birthday. I have not worn pants since April 8, 1954. Marines wear trousers. Ladies wear pants.
