Short WSK paddle today (1.5 hrs max and maybe 4 miles). Just Bill B. and Nancy, who were in a tandem, and me. We launched from Monterey Bay Kayaks in downtown Monterey. That’s where I first tried kayaking, in a sit-on-top tandem with Katy and her 6th grade science class. It’s an easy launch site, and conditions were very mild and sunny. Lots of active seals, including babies. First time for me to really paddle in kelp. Here’s the (edited) official trip report:
“ Swell forcast was 4′-8′, what we had was 2′-3’swell. Light breeze on the return. Nice, sunny, and warm for this time of year. … Very casual paddle down to the big rock just past the aquarium. There we sat for a few and talked about how nice conditions were, seals, and otters and jelly fish we saw. Whole trip about 2hrs 15/30 min. Both lovely ladies would like to go again. Good for a Sunday.”

Went on a paddle to Redwood City with WSK. Didn’t have the GPS since Rusty was out on a bike ride, but others said it about a 10 mile paddle. Very flat and calm and warm and easy, but long. We were on the water for almost 4 hours. We turned about out of the main channel, then went back into the slough to Menlo Park (very high tide, so were able to get through), the back in the bay to the main channel. Highlight on the return trip was a group of about 7 harbor seals playing in the water. Tried out my new paddle. It takes a bit of getting used, but is so light!
Here is the official trip report: “Yo Gang
It was a beautiful sunny, windless day in the bay. We had a 9ft. tide and we were able to paddle to Menlo Park through canals only excessible at super-high tide.
It was so enjoyable that the pirates were amazed that they had paddled 10 1/2 miles with such ease.”
