Opening the house

  • Turn on water and recirc pump*.
  • Turn master heat control** to 80.

    • Closing the house

  • Turn off water and recirc pump*.
  • Flush toilets and put anti-freeze in.
  • Turn master heat control** to 45.

    While you are there

  • Shovel the deck, the deck should be cleared when you leave.
  • Shovel the walkway.
  • Eat anything you find (check the dates).

    Trash

  • Blue bags are for recycling (paper, cardboad, plastic, glass, styrofoam)
  • Don't leave ANY food in the garage
  • All trash goes in the bear box, recycling on top (of the trash)
  • Trash pickup is on Tuesday

    Fireplace

    Getting a fire started in the fireplace is a little tricky. There should be an opertaion manual somewhere near the fireplace, it will tell you how. It is especially hard to get it to draw correctly. Here is my simple guide:
    1. push round nob all the way to the left
    2. pull "ring" knob, in the center, all the way out
    3. build the fire
    4. open the sliding door to the deck about 6 inches
    5. take a piece of newspaper light it and hold it near the back of the stove until it starts to draw correcly
    6. light the fire
    7. once the fire has started, close the doors
    8. once fire is going and stove is heated, push back in the ring, this will cause the catalytic converter to start working
  • The round knob only moves about 1 inch, it controls how much air gets into the fireplace. All the way left is most air (biggest flames).

    Land Rover

    Feel free to use the Land Rover in the garage. The keys should be either in it or on the back of the door with the other keys. Check the oil from time to time. If it needs some, there should be some either in it or around the garage.

    *water and recirc switches (labelled light switches) are located in the garage, about 4 feet towards the back of the house from the door into the house.

    **the master heat control is located in the family room (bottom floor), it is the bottom thermostat on the wall next to the door.
